Choosing your shop for a AAA claim

Here is what many drivers do not know: for an insurance claim, California Insurance Code Section 758.5 gives you the choice of shop. Your insurer, AAA included, can suggest a shop, but cannot require you to use one, and your adjuster must honor the shop you pick. You can bring your car to any licensed shop you trust.

MTY Collision is an independent, licensed body shop. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by AAA, and we do not claim any AAA membership. What we do is handle your AAA insurance claim for you, start to finish, while you keep your right to choose.

How your AAA claim works at MTY Collision

Start by bringing us the car or letting us arrange towing. We open or continue your AAA claim, photograph the damage, and write a full estimate. AAA reviews it, an adjuster or a photo estimate confirms the scope, and once the repair is authorized we begin. When teardown reveals damage the first estimate could not see, we submit the supplement to AAA ourselves, so the back and forth is on us, not you. AAA typically pays the shop directly once you authorize the work and they approve it, and we tell you up front about anything that falls to you, like your deductible.

Expect a free written estimate with no appointment, direct billing to AAA, and steady updates by text or phone. Your repair carries our own lifetime warranty on workmanship, paint, and clear coat (non-transferable). We are EV certified, we match your factory paint code exactly, and se habla español.

We serve the Bay Area from three locations: our flagship shop in Santa Clara, open seven days a week, plus Hayward and San Mateo. We also have dedicated pages for drivers in Sunnyvale and Burlingame.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to use a shop from AAA's list for my claim?

No. Under California law you can have your car repaired at any licensed shop you choose, and AAA still handles the claim.

Can MTY Collision work with my AAA insurance claim?

Yes. We work with AAA claims directly, bill AAA, and manage the estimate, photos, supplements, and paperwork for you.

Is MTY Collision affiliated with AAA?

No. We are an independent shop, not affiliated with or endorsed by AAA. We work with AAA insurance claims for our customers every day.

Will AAA cover my repair at your shop?

Yes. AAA is responsible for the reasonable cost of repairing your vehicle at the licensed shop you choose. If there is a difference between our estimate and AAA's number, California regulation gives the insurer a set way to resolve it, and we walk you through it.
